THE STATIC

Every now and then (as time allows) I will post some tidbit found on a cryptozoology site or in an article or the media. Most will be taken from forums, blogs, or comment sections. I will offer my opinion, and then give the readers the opportunity to offer their own opinions or comments on any part of what they have read.

Monster Quest, Again

Now that Monster Melodrama, I mean Monster Quest, has run its course, what have we learned?

Answer: It takes all kinds.

The rest is conjecture.

:::Yawn::: ... that's all.

Monster Quest

The first show about Champ proved one thing: That it was able to prove nothing. And the rehashing of the same old arguments over the Mansi photo got no further than they ever have previously. Sandra Mansi’s smug claim that no one has been able to debunk her photo was laughable. Technically, it has been thoroughly debunked if she continues to insist that it is a plesiosaur-like creature; there is no scientific support for living plesiosaurs, especially in extremely cold lakes. But she’s so sure of what she saw (everyone says), and even the skeptics comment on her apparent honesty. Yea, well, everyone commented on Robert Kenneth Wilson’s apparent honesty as well, didn’t they? And her anxiety at the sighting (which she always admits) would never allow her imagination to take control and cause her to mistake or exaggerate what she truly saw (despite the fact that psychologists have proven over and over again that such a thing is common), would it? Four people witnessed the object in the Mansi photo, where were the other three during the program?

Yep, the same old arguments for a plesiosaur, accompanied by the same old ignorance, surrounded by the same old gullibility.

The echolocation, however, is something else. If it isn’t artificially caused by some man-made device, then the scientists have a perplexing, yet fun, little mystery on their hands. Like the one research scientist so intelligently stated; there are plenty of mysteries in Lake Champlain, but a plesiosaur is not one of them.

The second show about Sasquatch was obviously, yet understandably, scripted, but poorly read by the participants. Considering the blood and hair samples are (yet again) inconclusive, my only comment is on the portion of the show where rocks were being thrown. Why did the scientists retreat into the house when the rocks (conveniently and safely) landed on the house? My guess: Because the scientists knew that a crew member was throwing the rocks for sensationalistic effect, and they wanted nothing to do with the hoax. I mean, one of them spends the night alone trying to attract the attention of sasquatch, and then when he gets that attention later on, ducks into the house instead of charging into the woods with a camera!? Yeah, right. But (as many have stated), maybe they feared for their lives. Well, when you consider the hundreds of people that have been killed by Sasquatch, I suppose that’s a reasonable fear. But wait; there are no verifiable reports of anyone ever being killed by Sasquatch. Hmmmmm, it appears that gullibility strikes yet again.

The third show about the giant squid was fantastic. Capturing a giant deep water squid on film will certainly get the attention of mainstream science, as well as the appropriate funding for further research. Now if they can only get unmistakably real footage of plesiosaurs and Sasquatch on film … guffaw.

As time allows, I will post further comments and opinions on the future offerings of Monster Quest.

Reader Feedback
Monster quest comes from a documentary film maker who seems to have failed to take pictures of a trackline of sasquatch tracks going across the tundra. This event would seem to beyond hoaxing because he was a self avowed expert on bear tracks. A once in a lifetime find so compelling he made "Legend Meets Science", Mysterious Encounters, Giganto and now monster quest.

But no pics of the event that inspired it all?

I'm a bit skeptical to say the least!
